Intro. Ramadhan Series.

“Darkness is soon approaching”

Those four words, strung together in the same sentence, are words I’ve heard 5 times a day, alongside the daily Adhaan. For 20 years, those four words are the only words that have stayed the same. For 20 years those four words are the only four words that wouldn’t go forgotten at morning and night prayer. For 20 years I watched them four words cut fear into my sisters. A whole Kingdom of sisters, shook in their veils because of them four words.

“Darkness is soon approaching.”

There are stories of a night that didn’t end for 321 years. The people of our Kingdom forgot what daylight was. Summer was a myth. The essence of time a memory. That night is the night that made history. Thousands of men and their Lords dropped dead to the floor like flies.

My bloodline was created through that night. The Virtuous Pledge was created on the night. The birth of the Yeheyah Circle was made that night. Oaths were made. Throats were slit. Blood was shed. When daylight shone through, my mother was on the hilltop. At 16, she had a kingdom under her Hijaab.

My mother is the most powerful person in the kingdom because of that night.

Her head draped with thahab. Her veil reached the floor. Her trail ran for miles. The women of the land lay on the floor for her. The men, whatever is left of them, hack off their manhood for her. The birds sing to her alone.

My older sibling hasn’t seen the walls of our citadel for 14 years. She was a warrior. Mothers warriors. She fought for our Kingdom alongside this lands most honourable and courageous ladies. She is the Command for Combat. She serves for this Land. She will always be my mothers warrior.

And me? Well...

My mother is the most powerful woman in the kingdom.

She was 300 year’s old. I was just 20.
