In a world filled with disappointment and uncertainty, family is your anchor. They should be placed at the centre of your universe, and given the highest of priorities.
When the world rejects us, it is our family that see us hurt. When we accomplish a goal, it is our family that cheer us on. Through hardship, through happiness, through the years four seasons, through all the best moment of your life, your family stand by and watch them all with you.
You don’t really register properly that as you grow your family is also growing. Your father so strong, with his tree trunk arms, that’ll lift you off the ground. Are now thinner, frail, and wrinkly. Your mother’s beautiful thick hair, the hair you so carefully brushed and catered to is now grey and not so thick anymore. As the years passed, your grandparents found their places in the ground. The number of babies around you increase. And everyone else around you is celebrating their engagement, or preparing for their wedding.
Families are our bridge to the future, as well as our link to the past. Cherish that.
Everyone must contribute. Support, effort, respect, care, love, serving. Everyone must share the same values and principles towards one another. If you and your siblings were at the verge of clawing each others faces off, that does not ever mean that moment has forced them values and principles to be forgotten. It doesn’t make you dysfunctional. Disagreeing with your Mother because you have different views on things does not mean she has a second set of values and principles for you. She was born in another era, your views will be different. What you do in reaction to that difference determines whether your family is dysfunctional, or you.
In Arabic, the word family Rahim literally means Womb. Isn’t that beautiful? A gentle reminder that you and your siblings derive from the same place. You’re no different.
Familia. You can’t choose them. You can’t live with them, you can’t live without. I can’t stress how important it is for us and our families to express love and support to each other. When were at work, at school, the world can be cold. Very selectively. When we come home, love and support warms us.
