Are Second Chances Worth It?

1

I recently took a trip to the fairy tale city of Cambridge, and was completely taken aback with how it left me feeling.

I’ve been to University, I thought I had a feel of what life as a student was like. I didn’t enjoy my time at University, and it’ll never be remembered as “The best experience in my life” like it would be for a lot of other people that I know.

I always knew I was going to go University, I always knew what I was going to Study, I just never paid any attention to the fine detail, neither did I plan how I was going to get there. I just let life take its course, and it did. I just never made the absolute best of that experience. It was just another part of my life I was eager to get through.

We first stopped off for a bite to eat. I felt like I was in a diner from the Movie Grease, and the workers were going to jump on top of the tables and start singing at any moment. Sadly, that didn’t happen,  but I liked to have imagined it just the same.

The streets were filled with University students, and the walls were fenced with bikes. Small, and narrow cobbled streets, that hid the brightest doors were found at every turn. You could feel the history hanging in the air!

13549046_10209730489877930_1821083560_o13548737_10209730490397943_443170397_o13575518_10209730487237864_1274529348_o13588797_10209730487637874_80817378_o

I just couldn’t help but feel like if I was given a second chance at University, what would I do differently? Which lead to me thinking, why didn’t I give my time at University a second chance to begin with?

While I sat on a boat, and sailed through the streams surrounding Cambridge, I thought about second chances, and how do I really know if they’re worth it; and just like that, the Wisdom of the Walls of Cambridge provided me with the answers!

13579902_10209730454117036_147745159_o13549207_10209730488037884_967587260_o13575658_10209730454357042_1326994266_o13575503_10209730483637774_1977870918_o13579854_10209730453917031_114970343_o13588721_10209730455117061_2125917022_o

Here are  5 reasons that help me decide whether second chances are worth taking or even giving!

  1. “..Will I live to regret this?”

I have never regretted any decision I’ve made in my life, because I have full faith in m y God. My faith has allowed me to believe that whatever is willed for me is already written, and there is very little I can do about it. If I didn’t get what I wanted from one experience then there is a better plan for me. I am convinced that I will be taken on a journey that is more rewarding than the experiences I missed out on.

  1. “..Will this affect me physically, mentally, and emotionally in the long term?”

What you feel in the moment counts for just that, just that moment. Just as the moment passes, so will your feelings, your state of mind, and your thoughts on that matter, on that chance. Take as long as you need, that moment is all yours, but let that moment show you the way. Give it a chance if in that moment you can’t see beyond that chance. Let it go if you see better opportunities, and chances coming your way.

  1. “..Are you settling because you fear the unknown?”

Most of time, chances aren’t found single. They’re usually partnered with risks, and with risks comes with the sudden dangers of the unknown. We like to anticipate the consequences, and taking chances always runs with the risk of not knowing where we’re going to land when we take it. But that will come at every nook and cranny of your life. If you refuse to walk through the nooks and crannies of your life, you won’t grow as a person, you won’t learn anything new, you won’t flourish.

  1. “..What does YOUR intuition say?”

The voice in your head, are really whispers coming from the shouting your guts are doing! If you feel like what you’re doing is right for you, it benefits you, and you will gain from it, then you always follow the voice. Don’t let the thoughts and opinions of other ever cloud your own judgement as nobody will ever know you better than you know yourself.

  1. ..”Will this chance present itself to me again?”

They say second chances very rarely come by, so take life by the horns and enjoy the ride. If you feel you’ll never get this chance again, then you take with your full heart. You put your soul into it because others may not get that chance. If however, you feel that this isn’t a chance for you, it’s another excuse for you to get back to being comfortable, then don’t take it. You need to flourish!

I let myself runaway with my thoughts as I joined the sea of people gathering in groups around the stalls set up in the markets. There were stalls of food, of jewellery, glass lamps, rugs, photographs, luxury soaps and bath salts.

13570259_10209730457397118_2005317558_o13555967_10209730458597148_1397007554_o13555791_10209730457077110_1380588135_o13588746_10209730458277140_628035337_o

Red, orange, green and yellow flowers sat in buckets, rich brown leather, wooden baskets and sandals bags hung from tents. You could hear people shout bargains, while others walked in and out of stalls.

I wandered the streets and the shops, and captured as many memories I could!

A short drive away from the hustle and bustle of the City is a beautiful water park I’m so thankful we drove into, because it was breath taking. Hidden behind mountains of greenery was what to me seemed like a hidden beach.

Sitting by the water brings out the better me, and I always pour my heaviest thoughts into the waves, so I feel lighter when leave them.

I had a horrible time at university, I chose the completely wrong major for me and I would love to go back in time and do something that I genuinely love!

  8. I believe in seconds chances – but I also think they do need to be chosen carefully!

If you’re looking for a nice grease style, all singing, all dancing diner: I would recommend putting Ellen’s Stardust Diner in New York on your bucket list! A truly great experience!

  10. I just love your post on second chances. There is something to be said about giving yourself the opportunity to try something again or to do something completely different if it’s going to take you on this amazing journey of self discovery. And I just love the Cambridge photos. Took me back when I walk through the streets seeing all the amazing little shops and colorful bikes.

What beautiful photos! It is never easy making a big decision like this. What I often do is overthink things and when deep down I know the right answer. I think often we get a gut instinct but we over rule it with our thoughts to the point of madness. I say follow your heart and it will not lead you wrong. Best of luck xo

  17. Love your post and your photos 🙂 Second chances can be great, the biggest thing I feel is to make your choices and don’t have regrets – we all have to make choices and miss out on some things, I studied for my degree part time while at work and living from home, sometimes I think that I would have liked to go to university for three years and live away and everything, but the fact is that my life is pretty good and the best thing I can do is be happy with the way things turned out 🙂 all the best!

i have to say this ! if you had doubts and your question being about second chances , then why
would you have taken so many pictures of a place that gave you doubts.
the pictures are beautiful , but maybe you was put there to meet your soul mate or someone who could help you on your journey of life. you talked about GOD , and my question to you would be this : would GOD have put that university in your mind without reason ?

Pictures capture time and I will take beautiful photos of all things as and when I please as pictures serve as memory for all places I’ve touched and been too. You should never question someone’s reasons for taking pictures as photography in itself is a form of art which you are insulting by questioning Lou.

Thank you for reading 🙂 X
