I have been dabbling in all sorts of Dark Arts this year!
If you read my last post you’ll have figured out I am from the City of Coventry. While my home city if full of history for many years it lacked culture.
One year our city filled itself with a vast variety of students which means Coventry had to up its game to cater to its new residents.
This bought out the introduction of Fargo Village!
FarGo is an artistically repurposed industrial space in Coventry City Centre, designed exclusively for creative, independent businesses and like-minded visitors.
When I say I have been dabbling in all sorts of Dark Arts this year I really mean to say I have been pushing myself out there ALOT! I have been leaving my comfort zone to enter spaces I never thought I would!
I recently got invited to blog an open comedy night at Backhaus&Co in Fargo Village!
I grabbed the opportunity with both hands as a chance to network and meet other bloggers. Most importantly to check out a cool and quirky venue whilst being entertained by talented comedians!
Backhaus&Co are a small family run bakery and cafe based in the centre of Fargo Village! They serve freshly prepared food & baked goods which they serve with the coffee sourced locally!
You can find a menu published weekly on their Facebook page!
The establishment is hoping to open up its floor to live musicians and comedians. They also host film nights! I absolutely love that public spaces likes this are opening up for artists especially in Coventry! As an artist myself whether that be my paintings or my poetry Coventry suffers from a lack of safe places for artists to express their passions and Backhaus&Co are really opening up the doors for us!
One of the events Backhaus&Co will be hosting is monthly comedy nights on a Tuesday which is the event I was invited to blog!
I walked into a river of people huddled around a lit up stage waiting for the first act to grace the stage.
A long queue of customers stood at the counter ordering up the coffees eagerly waiting to be served so that they can then grab some good seats! We then waited for the first act to the grace the floor!
They managed to squeeze a couple of laughs out of me – my sister however isn’t very easily amused so she sat with a straight face on her the whole time.
I however enjoyed the acts and think its SO courageous of anyone to get up in front of people to perform their passions. The thought of it scares the living daylights out of me so shout out to the bravery of all the acts that night!
Backhaus&Co is the perfect venue for students to escape the bitter cold and find a warm spot to chill out and drink some coffee! When I was student I would have killed for a spot like this to come and study! It definitely makes a change from the library!
Make sure to check out Backhaus&Co if you’re passing Fargo Village! Even if you wanted to spend 5 minutes there I can promise you’ll end up uncovering gem after gem in the small area – you’ll end up being there for hours!
What are some the quirkiest places in your home city?
